I woke up on October 7, 2001 to the news that the U.S. bombing campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan had begun. This was the day of the re-scheduled Emmys. CBS president Les Moonves and I got on the phone, polled our own people and both came to the same conclusion: we had to cancel the show AGAIN. This picture is from a news conference where the three of us explained this decision and what it would mean to nearly 200 reporters from around the globe who were gathered to cover the Emmys that wouldn't be happening. A friend called me that night and said, "Dude, you were on TV today more than the President."
