The site devoted to the upcoming book -- A.D. After Disclosure -- has been steadily growing in traffic and, from time-to-time, explosively so. With so many new readers over there, co-author Richard Dolan and I decided to let our "early adopters" recommend some of their favorite material based on the number of page views our posts have received. This comes down to a Baker's Dozen for us -- 13 posts, some of heavier weight than others but all of them, by virtue of our readers so far, worth recommending to those who are joining the conversation in progress. So, for my, shall we say "broader spectrum" readers over here at For What It's Worth, here's the sampling.

• What If UFO Secrecy Ended Tomorrow?  This is far and away are most widely read post -- it's the entire word-for-word "Introduction" to the upcoming A.D. After Disclosure book. It lays out the mission of the book in detail but, beyond that, it even breaks down what readers can expect in each of the ten individual chapters. If you're thinking about buying a copy, this is a good way to see what you're getting ahead of time.

• If This Isn't a National Security Issue, Then What Is?  Written by Richard Dolan to coincide with the news conference held in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club on September 27, 2010. If you want the basic case for UFO interference with the world's nuclear missile sites, this is the primer you need to read.

• Shame on Evan Davis and the BBC  British news "presenter" Evan Davis managed recently to write a column that was so over-the-top in its arrogance and bias toward UFO research, that it merited special attention and analysis. In fact, we put more thought into our deconstruction of his flimsy reporting than he obviously did to his work in the first place.

• 60 Years On -- The McMinnville Photos  The two photos taken by the Trents in 1950 have stood the test of time and hard-nosed scrutiny. We summarize the story behind the story of the photos but also use it to show a faux-Time magazine cover that the case would  have merited if the national media gave UFO reporting anything approximating the coverage it deserves.

• The 1947 Twining Memo Anniversary  It was 63 years ago that a high ranking United States Air Force General, Nathan Twining, said -- in writing -- that UFOs were the real deal and that people who were seeing them were not crazy or liars but were reporting a real phenomenon. You can read about it, and the even read the memo itself here.

• "The Event" Probably Isn't THE Event  There's been a lot of talk about NBC's new series, "The Event," and whether or not it has an extraterrestrial explanation. While the jury is still out on that, it does seem that even if there is a connection, it will not be dealing with Disclosure in the real, practical way that it will eventually happen, something that gets pointed out in this piece about what true Disclosure really means.

• Art Imitating Life: JFK and Disclosure  Colonel Phillip Corso is famous (or infamous) in UFOlogy for his book, The Day After Roswell, where he claimed to have helped implement key reverse engineering with the Roswell wreckage. Open Minds unearthed an interview from before Corso's death where he also said that President Kennedy and his brother Bobby Kennedy also knew, something that formed the backbone of the 1990s NBC drama series, Dark Skies.

• Mad Men with Aliens Coming to DVD  Dark Skies, like Mad Men, was set mostly in the early 1960s, with all the same great costumes, cars and sets. Now, after 13 years of non-stop attempts to get the 20 hours of episodes released so they could be seen outside the hit-and-miss NBC program-and-pre-empt strategy, it has finally happened. This post contains the details on the January 18, 2011 release, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of President John Kennedy, the time period that begins the series pilot.

• Small Steps and Giant Leaps  Where were you on July 20, 1969? Everyone who was alive then has their own set of "Moonwalk Memories" that brings the time to vivid life. Here is one about fathers and sons, being fired for the first time, and the importance of history. We urge you to read it, and leave your own story in the comments section.

• Our Majestic 12 (Documents)  Here are a dozen documents that takes UFOs very seriously, several of which you may be unaware of, many of which were brought to light and clarified through the Freedom of Information Act. From the Twining Memo to the Teheran Encounter to the Rendlesham Forest incident, if you read this post, you will know more about the subject that 99% of the people you are likely to meet in your daily life. Impress them with your command of the facts.

• Testing Reactions to Disclosure  This is the story of Lt. Col. Ellison Onizuka, one of the astronauts who died in the 1986 Challenger crash, and how he claimed to have been exposed to a "test" of UFO Disclosure while being stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in the 1970s.

• What Value Do UFO Photos Have?  We talk about them all the time, there are thousands of them out there, and yet -- in our reader poll -- photos were considered the absolute least likely "trigger event" to force Disclosure. 

• Edgar Mitchell Says "Prepare for the Inevitable"  Apollo 14 lunar pilot Edgar Mitchell has generously recommended this book and when you see the kind of interest his comments generated, you can see what kind of high esteem he is held by people in the know.

I understand (and my wife constantly reminds me!) that not everyone shares the same compulsive fascination as I do with this subject matter. Still, if it's true (and I think it is), then you'd have to agree that knowing a bit more about it is a good thing. That's a fine place to start.

The Real Life Version of "The Event"

NBC’s "The Event" Probably Isn't "The Event"

As of this writing, NBC’s new series, The Event, has not aired, although there certainly is a great buzz about the show among people interested in UFOs. 

Even though the four minute trailer doesn’t explicitly mention UFOs or aliens, it’s not hard to imagine that, somehow, these themes are important to the series. The President learns of a deeply secret CIA operation dealing with “others” of some sort who are held in a secure base in Alaska. “So this is true,” he says, “this is all true.” He is brought to their location and meets their “leader.” He is going to hold a major press conference, but there is an attempt on his life. What is happening, according to The Event’s Wikipedia entry, is “the biggest cover-up in U.S. history; a coverup which shapes the very core of mankind as a whole.” 

Makes you wonder, for sure. 

Other bloggers, such as Larry Lowe, have discussed their knowledge that The Event is UFO/ET related. So has Steve Hammons speculated on this likelihood on American Chronicle. I’ve also been quietly told by another researcher involved in exopolitics that this is indeed the case. 

I learned about this show sometime during the summer. At that time, I talked about it with Bryce Zabel, my intrepid co-author of the upcoming A.D. After Disclosure: The People’s Guide to Life After Contact. Bryce and I had spent the spring and summer writing about what the world really will look like following the Disclosure of the UFO/ET reality here on planet Earth. So you can see why we would be especially interested in following this “event” for a major broadcasting network, especially since our own book is complete and due for release in late October. 

With the release of a major television show based, it would seem, on something to do with a significant Earth-changing “event,” I can only reflect on what I think will be the real Earth-changing event. 

That will be the Disclosure -- whether by an American President or some other major public figure -- of the reality of a non-human intelligence interacting with humanity. An intelligence that is connected to the UFO phenomenon, and that is, fundamentally, “not us.” They are “Others.” 

This does not mean they are extraterrestrial, though of course they might be. Perhaps, too, these Others inhabit some other dimension of reality. Or maybe they are humans from another place or time. Or maybe something entirely different, or some combination of possibilities. Dealing with them, trying to understand them, was one of the key issues of our book, but by no means the only one. 

Dark Skies: The Emmy Winning Main Title Sequence

In anticipation of the January 18, 2011 U.S. release of Dark Skies on DVD, we've put together this YouTube of the main title sequence. This work won the Emmy award for designer Mike Jones in 1997 in the "Outstanding Main Title Design" category. The music was composed by Michael Hoenig, as well as the short samples we use in between the main titles and at the end on this video. Michael was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the series, too. His music could be scary and suspenseful when it needed to, but it was tragic and elegiac when it needed to be, and so beautiful. It helped the entire series rise to a new level.

It's interesting to listen to Michael's music and watch the three versions in a row: the first is the one we ended up with and includes the classic "History is a lie" line, followed by "John, someone's coming!" and gunfire. The second one is just the instrumental, what was constructed by the title designers, the way we thought we'd might do it until we added the voice-over. The third one is the first version of the voice-over, different delivery and not nearly as strong, I think, as the one we ended up with. 

13 Years Later, the Skies Brighten for... DARK SKIES!

Dark Skies is, finally, for real, and without qualification, coming out on DVD. It will be released by the Los Angeles based Shout! Factory on DVD on January 18, 2011. This coincides with the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Fans will remember that JFK's assassination in the pilot episode is tied in to his interest in disclosing UFO reality in his second term.

Shout! Factory is a successful home video company that was originally started by an exodus of employees from Rhino Records. It has evolved into a premium supplier of content, including a full-line of classic TV series, like the recently released Max Headroom. Dark Skies is just the kind of product they love to bring to market -- an overlooked gem with passionate fans. 

 

Dark Skies -- the 1996-1997 NBC UFO series -- is composed of twenty hours (18 one-hour episodes, and a two-hour pilot) that tells an epic story of suspense and danger, set against the colorful backdrop of the 1960s. The UFO cover-up unfolds from the point of view of John Loengard, a naive congressional staffer who comes to Washington D.C. to be a part of JFK's "New Frontier" but ends up reluctantly working for the secret organization Majestic-12 as an undercover operative from 1961-1967. Because of its period and the incredible set design and wardrobe, some fans consider it a forerunner of Mad Men, but with aliens!

The series starred Eric Close, Megan Ward, Jeri Ryan and J.T. Walsh and was created by Bryce Zabel & Brent V. Friedman.

On DVD, we believe that audiences will finally get to see the series the way its creators intended, free of the scheduling challenges it faced on its network run. Back in the pre-DVR mid-90s, Dark Skies was on Saturday nights, suffered numerous pre-emptions and spotty promotion that started great, then dropped off a cliff. 

From the moment the series begins, however, you'll know you're in for a special ride. The main titles, for example, won the Emmy award the year the series debuted, and the pilot that was written by Brent Friedman and myself was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award in the "Outstanding Original Longform" category.

The Shout! Factory release will have all the episodes, mastered to be the highest possible quality. While the extras are being developed, they will be substantial, and I'll be involved in helping to make sure they meet the same high standards that all of us involved in the television series brought to that endeavor.

To Our COAST-TO-COAST AM Friends: News About A.D. After Disclosure, Dark Skies, Majic Men

First off, thanks for dropping by. As it turns out, I'll be on Coast-to-Coast AM with George Noory on Monday night, August 9 with UFO researchers Stan Friedman and Don Schmitt. They've got us slated to talk about "Hollywood and UFOs" in general, and specifically about a new film project, Majic Men.  Coast-to-Coast AM has monumental importance to the Disclosure movement, so this should be something to look forward to.

Along with my fellow producer Don Most, we have optioned both the life rights to Stanton Friedman and Donald Schmitt but also the book rights to Friedman's Top Secret/Majic and Schmitt's (along with Thomas Carey) Witness to Roswell. 

From this we are now beginning to develop and find the right creative partnership to make Majic Men which will be the story behind the story of breaking the Roswell mystery into the open secret it is today. We hope to do for this story what All the President's Men did for Watergate and to use some of the same visual energy as was found in JFK. But with just enough humor to justify saying it's about two down-to-Earth guys who are breaking a story that is out-of-this-world. Lots more coming on this Monday...

There are some other highlights to look forward to in that show, however...

First,there will be a major announcement about Dark Skies, the NBC series I co-created with Brent V. Friedman in the 1990s. It told the story of the UFO mystery through the eyes of a young man recruited into Majestic-12 in 1961. The first season told his story (and the UFO cover-up's) until its final episode which took place in 1967 during the "Summer of Love" in San Francisco. I've been waiting years to say the words I'll get to say Monday night out loud and the fans who have written me so regularly about the series should be happy to hear them. Details, coming up on Coast-to-Coast -- a place that is close to my heart -- because during the production of the series I appeared twice on Art's show as his guest, and returned the favor by casting Art as member of the Majestic-12 control group.

Second, and this is very real and very immediate, the book that I am co-authoring with UFO historian Richard M. Dolan, A.D. After Disclosure: The People's Guide to Life After Contact, is nearly finished, and goes to the printer later this month and will be published by Keyhole Publishing on September 23. We believe that it is the first non-fiction book to be devoted entirely to discussing the impact that Disclosure will have on the world and how it will change everything: politics, military, economy, culture, industry, science, religion, media and particularly government. We have some breaking news about a bold new way that book will be presented to the public, too, and hopefully I'll be able to share that as well Monday night.

Richard Dolan and I met professionally when my company -- Stellar Productions -- optioned Richard's outstanding first two volumes of his UFO trilogy as the basis of a television series (UFOs and the National Security State). While that is still the plan, we realized we shared a mutual vision about the post-Disclosure world and we've thrown all our efforts into this coming book first.

The book's dedicated site, AfterDisclosure.com, is the place where we've posted extended essays and other content in anticipation of the book's release. This is the one that we, as authors, maintain the most control over. There's lots of content you can't get anywhere else -- everything from personal essays, to polls, and evenDisclosure Comix. Can INCEPTION Save the Movie Industry?

Friday at 12:01 a.m., the first batch of non-critic moviegoers will see "Inception", Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi existential heist flick.  This week, critics spiralled into an ego war, some lauding the film as a cinematic masterpiece while others decried it as a cinematic con job.  Even now, tempers are flaring with the RottenTomato meter hanging in the balance.  

Meanwhile, industry execs have kept a wary eye on "Inception"'s marketing campaign, and are even more eager to see the film's opening box office numbers.  What has garned all this interest and controversy?  

As many reviews have stated, "Inception" is one of too few original films coming out recently that is not based on any pre-existing property and seems to be marketed mainly for adults.  If you take a moment, most moviegoers would be surprised by just how many "adapted" materials hit the screens nowadays, as opposed to say the 80s or 90s when spec scripts so frequently were bought and produced.  

On top of this, "Inception" has kept many of its main plot points secret, relying on the unusual visuals of its trailers and the star power attached to it to garner audiences interest.  The traditional industry tracking agencies have struggled to track interest in "Inception," somehow unbelievingly ignoring it's trending on Twitter and other social networking sites.  The hype and interest surrounding "Inception" -- from an industry standpoint -- resides in the abysmal box office summer where nearly every film -- regardless of its proven market pre-existing property or star power attached -- has underperformed miserably.  Even "Twilight: Eclipse" saw a 60+% drop-off in tickets its second weekend, spelling doom for the film's box office longevity.  The only films so far to over-perform are children's flicks, which guarantee at least two tickets for every targeted member of the demographic (parents have to accompany their kids).

My Friend Stan Says... SCIENCE WAS WRONG!

You may know Stanton Friedman for any number of reasons. He's a former nuclear physicist, one of the most influential voices in ufology since the 1960s, and he has a new book out called Science Was Wrong.

Stan is also a friend and colleague and, oddly, I have his life rights under option for a film, more of which we'll talk about at the end of this post. I guess I should call him Stanton out of respect, but that makes him sound like a Civil War general, and I prefer Stan because that sounds more like the regular guy that he is. I digress...

For now, consider this a shout-out for his new book, co-authored with Kathleen Marden, who has also become a strong voice in telling this story. Stan and Kathleen have collected fascinating insights about the pioneers who created or thought up "impossible" ideas that were deemed crazy nonsense, yet ultimately revolutionized our world.

This is not a flying saucer book, although it does have a single chapter, "UFOs," where Stan pulls his research career into a concise line of reasoning.

The impossibilists have had a field day with UFOs for more than 60 years. There has certainly been no shortage of strong, negative proclamations from debunking groups and individuals who refuse to examine the evidence. These proclamations include the false assumption that there is no convincing evidence, only anecdotal data, to support the notion that some UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin; that eyewitness testimony cannot be trusted; that it would be impossible to get to Earth from another star or another galaxy; that the reported maneuvers would be impossible; that governments can't keep secrets; and many other equally foolish statements. It is truly amazing how often one finds scientists making claims about the evidence relating to UFOs.

There's a lot of great stuff in this book of Stan and Kathleen's, and I urge you to pick it up. You can get it at your local bookstore, at Amazon.com, or even through Stan's own website or Kathleen's website.

A.D. AFTER DISCLOSURE Announced at the National Press Club

My co-author, Richard Dolan, spoke on Monday, May 10 -- just two blocks away from the White House -- as part of the X-Conference held in Washington, D.C. He announced our book A.D. After Disclosure and even gave a plug to the song Need-to-Know: The UFO Disclosure Song. This video got an editing "upgrade" and has some fun stuff and easter eggs in it, so please check it out.
