Caught a glimpse of my first promo ad for The Poseidon Adventure on NBC during tonight's The West Wing episode.
I was speeding through the first commercial break on my TiVo so I went back and watched the spot a few times. I'm sure I'm not alone in having some guilt about blowing past commercials -- given that I make my living off, mostly, broadcast television -- but if the technology is there, it's hard not to use it.
In any case, the spot looked excellent (even with repeated viewings!) and with that Voice-of-God narrator they like to use reading the copy, it sounded excellent, too. Particularly loved the last shot they used from an underwater POV, looking up at the capsized Poseidon, air bubbles leaking out. The network has several other spots posted on this web-page for viewing. Check them out.
NBC also has a promo page for The Poseidon Adventure up on their official web-site. Click here to check it out.
By the way, the specific page on this blog dedicated to The Poseidon Adventure mini-series gets at least half the hits each day here. Lots of interest -- more every day. Click here to read that page.
Anyway, mark those calendars for Sunday, November 20, 8pm to 11pm, which will put it head-to-head with Desperate Housewives.
Here's my fantasy headline in the Monday, November 21, 2005 issue of Daily Variety:
Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
